Ashley King is the Global Human Resources Advisor for Yum! Brands, headquartered in Plano, Texas.
According to Ashley, this is how to respond when an interviewer asks if you have any questions:
The answer should always be “yes.” When a candidate has questions during an interview this shows the interviewer that the candidate is prepared, has taken time to research the company, and is genuinely interested in the position. Asking questions is also the perfect opportunity for a candidate to find out more about the company that may not be found when researching online or in the job description. My personal rule of thumb is to always come to an interview prepared with at least four questions; three to ask at the end of the interview and one backup in case any of my top three were already discussed by the interviewer. Here are a few sample questions:
1) How has this position evolved?
2) What are the most important qualities for someone to excel in this role?
3) I am passionate about women’s leadership in the workplace, how could I become involved with your women’s resource group that you offer on campus if I were chosen for this position? (Research the company and find a way to relate your passions to the company’s values, community initiatives, or employee resource groups.)
4) How would you describe the company culture and what do you love most about what makes your company different?
