Pitch Perfect: A Discussion with Startup Expert Lisa Tsou

Meet Lisa Tsou, the Founder of The Winning Pitch! The Winning Pitch is a company that counsels entrepreneurs with startup businesses and helps them take their companies to the next level. The Winning Pitch has been in the making since Ms. Tsou graduated from law school at Columbia University. After college, she worked as a consultant at a law firm that specialized in financing startup businesses. She developed a passion for this type of work, which eventually transformed into what The Winning Pitch is today. As her company grew, she really began to hone in on her passion for working specifically with female entrepreneurs. This is when she developed the idea for Los Angeles Women’s Entrepreneurs Meet Up or LAWEM for short. She now advises clients from both LAWEM and The Winning Pitch in many different areas, some of which include business growth, investor relations, and fundraising.

Lisa Tsou is truly an exquisite example of practicing what you preach. She takes the lessons she’s learned throughout her career and applies them to her clients; something that I believe has made her a successful entrepreneur.

When asked about the obstacles she has overcome in this profession, she answered, “Starting anything is difficult. I’ve gone through my ups and downs myself. I’ve tried things that haven’t worked. You just have to learn to pick yourself up and try something else.” She has firsthand experience, and knows that it is not easy to be an entrepreneur. Ms. Tsou even went as far as saying that “entrepreneurship isn’t for everyone.” This is why Ms. Tsou believes it is extremely important for someone to understand what they’re getting into beforehand. Make sure to weigh all of your options first before jumping in too deep.

Another great piece of advice Ms. Tsou carries over into her consulting business is the phrase “date your customers.” She encourages her clients to do their research and go out into their community to identify their target audience and potential collaborators. She empowers her clients be open minded and look at every failure as a lesson. When asked “What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?” Ms. Tsou answered, “To keep in mind that life is more about the journey rather than the destination.” This is something Ms. Tsou has clearly taken to heart. She treats each experience as a means to grow and better her business, which is an essential piece of advice she extends to her clients. She wants to help them to realize that each little victory is a stepping stone of a greater picture. If you want to be successful never stop dreaming, and always want more for yourself and your business.

I love reading about new careers especially that interest me! This job seems so interesting and I could not agree more with what a lot of Lisa Tsou said. Really invest in meeting and knowing your audience, that is such great advice. And I think knowing that life is about the journey, not the destination is really important too. Sometimes I get so caught up in where I’ll go to college or what my future job will be, but what’s also important is how I get to that point as it makes the person I’ll be. Love getting to know Ms. Tsou in this article!

Lisa Tsou really inspires me. I’ve heard a lot of people say that life is not about the destination it’s about the journey, but Ms. Tsou really applies this quote to her life. As I see how she applied this quote to her own life, I’ll remember not to get caught up in what grade I get on a test or where I’ll go to college. I’ll look as each experience as part of the journey shaping who I will become. I love her advice and this is one of my favorite articles I’ve read on this site so far!
