Our relationships with leading academics and experts deliver deep insights into investor psychology, demographic trends and behavior. Hartford Funds also delivers investment insight to help advisors and clients navigate the investment landscape. Our product line-up includes more than 55 mutual funds sub-advised by Wellington Management or Schroder Investment Management (with the exception of certain fund of funds) and a variety of multifactor and active ETFs. The firm has $95.6 billion assets under management as of September 30, 2017 (excluding assets used in certain annuity products).

Project Overview

Task: Hartford Funds is seeking an engaging, strategic vision for how it can build awareness and engage young women and female prospective employees with the company and the overall financial industry.

The Challenge: The asset management category as a whole is generally male dominated, with roughly a 60-40 percent breakdown between men and women in the industry. Given its unique philosophy of human-centric investing, which focuses on deeply understanding investors and the myriad of challenges they face, Hartford Funds can and should be fighting to break down the gender gap within the space. Reversing that trend, however, is challenging.

Requirements:

Build a strategic plan for helping Hartford Funds to break down the gender gap within the asset management category. The overarching approach should detail ways in which the firm can conduct broader outreach and engagement with female students and talented female professionals to introduce them to Hartford Funds and the industry in which it operates. The plan should feature the following components:

  • Definition of the target audience
  • Overarching strategic approach
  • Proposed tactics to support the approach
  • Recommended timeline
  • Measurements of progress/success
