Hartford Funds is looking to hire paid summer 2023 interns for their Wayne, PA office. All interns will follow a hybrid work model (Mon./Fri. remote, Tues./Wed./Thurs. in the office), and a housing stipend is available.
Sales Desk Intern
Responsibilities of the Role
- Extensive use of CRM for various projects at Hartford Funds
- Build focus customer lists, run competitive analysis reports—Morningstar and CRM
- Conduct territory analysis and gather business intelligence
- Create and execute on sales campaigns aligned with firm initiatives
- Execute customer orders and other various requests
- Assist in various roles, including inside sales, sales support, and investment consulting group
- Gain industry and organizational knowledge through daily business interactions and job assignments
Qualifications
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel required; experience in Microsoft Word and Outlook preferred
- Strong ability to multitask and handle several projects simultaneously
- Comfortable with phone conversations and presentation skills
- Interest in capital markets/financial planning preferred, but not required
- Must be able to adapt to a fast-paced environment
Business Intelligence Intern
Responsibilities of the Role
- Use quantitative metrics to measure the success of Hartford Funds’ distribution strategy against stated firm goals. This includes, but is not limited to, measuring the effectiveness and impacts of numerous programs, call campaigns, events, and training against stated objectives
- Identify, investigate, and resolve data discrepancies; work with the BI team and internal business partners to provide controls to prevent future occurrences and work with data team to create long-term solutions
- Assist in the handling of various vendors that provide tools leveraged by the sales team
- Work with necessary parties, sometimes across departments, as new initiatives or issues arise
Qualifications
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel and PowerPoint
- Combine strong quantitative and analytical skills, strong written and verbal communication skills, and ability to generate simple and impactful output
- Effective team player, able to work with people of all levels and build strong relationships
- Self-motivated and able to handle multiple tasks at once
- Some basic knowledge of the investment management industry and mutual funds
- Willingness and ability to consolidate large data sets into concise and summarized outputs that can be leveraged by the broader BI team and other internal stakeholders
- Proficiency with data query and compilation software
Investment Intern (Product/Data Analytics)
Responsibilities of the Role
- Utilize industry aggregator tools, such as Morningstar and Lipper to develop reports to help the research and data analytics teams analyze performance, portfolio characteristics, peers, and competitors in Hartford Funds’ fund line-up
- Work with team on further development of Data Warehouse, which is used to house portfolio characteristics, performance information, and qualitative information about Hartford Funds’ product lineup
- Work with team on further development of SharePoint site, which serves as a reference library for information received from Hartford Funds’ sub-advisers as well as content created by IAG
- Participate and observe department meetings around due diligence, research topics, and data analytics
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Must be currently enrolled in college as a Business/Finance/Economics major or Computer/Data Science
- Proficiency in Excel required with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Flexibility is a must, strong ability to multitask and handle several projects simultaneously.
- Familiarity with Mutual Funds and exchange-traded funds preferred
- Interest in Financial Markets
- Experience and/or interest in developing coding skills, including, but not limited to SQL, Python, and data visualization skills through Tableau or comparable tools
- Willing to take on new projects and lend a hand to the team where needed
Investment Intern (Product Communications/RFPs)
Responsibilities of the Role
- Update product content, including sample proposals, fund summaries, and pitchbooks in a timely fashion to reflect changes to a product’s team, philosophy, and process
- Participate in department meetings around RFP responses and content development
- Work with team on further development of consultant database narratives and responses
- Participate in product development and product enhancement projects as they pertain to RFP team deliverables
- Assist in creating materials for product training sessions
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Must be currently enrolled in college as a Business/Finance/Economics major (Marketing or Communications major considered if there is also familiarity with financial markets)
- Excellent writing and editing skills required
- Familiarity with mutual funds and exchange-traded funds preferred
- Interest in financial markets
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint required
- Experience in Microsoft Outlook and Excel preferred
- Strong ability to multitask and handle several projects simultaneously
- Fast learner
- Willing to take on new projects and lend a hand to the team where needed
