Summer 2021 Internships

There are 4 internships available: Marketing, Investment Advisory Group, Business Intelligence, and IT. All internships are virtual, paid, and 40 hours/week.

Job Title: Marketing Intern

Overview of the Role: This internship will provide the opportunity for a student to play a key role in the marketing department by utilizing marketing technology and collaborating with marketing team members in areas such as research, content creation, analytics, and communication.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in digital marketing and advertising promotional activities (e.g. social media, email, web)
  • Participate in the planning, scheduling, and editing of social media posts
  • Help develop marketing pieces and contribute writing content
  • Proof/edit marketing materials
  • Assist with trafficking of digital ad creative
  • Assist marketing in design and testing of new web pages for Hartfordfunds.com
  • Maintain website content in CMS system
  • Support the marketing team in daily administrative tasks

Qualifications: 

  • Must be a student in good standing currently enrolled in college
  • Strong desire to learn along with professional drive
  • Solid understanding of different marketing techniques
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office
  • Familiarity with marketing computer software and online applications (e.g. website CMS tools, online analytics, marketing automation, social media)
  • Strong ability to multi-task and handle several projects simultaneously
  • Willing to take on new projects and lend a hand to the team where needed

Job Title: Investment Advisory Group Intern

Overview of the Role: This intern role is within the group responsible for the development, management, and promotion of the entire investment product lineup of Hartford Funds. The position will provide exposure to performance measurement and assessment, asset allocation, product lifecycle, and competitive positioning disciplines.

Responsibilities of the Role: 

  • Utilize FactSet and Morningstar to develop reports to help the research and data analytics teams analyze performance and performance attribution, portfolio characteristics, peers, and competitors in our fund line-up
  • Participate in department meetings around due diligence, research topics, and data analytics
  • Work with team on further development of Data Warehouse, which is used to house portfolio characteristics, performance information, and qualitative information about our product lineup
  • Work with team on further development of SharePoint site which serves as a reference library for information received from sub-advisers as well as content created by IAG
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications: 

  • Must be currently enrolled in college as a Business/Finance/Economics major
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel required
  • Experience in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Power Point preferred
  • Strong ability to multi-task and handle several projects simultaneously
  • Familiarity with Mutual Funds and exchange-traded funds preferred
  • Interest in Financial Markets
  • Fast learner
  • Willing to take on new projects and lend a hand to the team where needed

Job Title: Business Intelligence Intern

Overview of the Role: In this internship you will be responsible for assisting the Business Intelligence team at Hartford Funds as they work with internal clients to further drive key initiatives by building frameworks, processes, and metrics that help drive sales across all channels. This includes partnering closely with sales team members to support growth and improve efficiency across all sales channels.

Responsibilities of the Role: 

Metrics and Reporting

  • Use quantitative metrics to measure the success of programs, call campaigns, events, and training to critically evaluate programs versus these metrics
  • Identify, investigate, and resolve data discrepancies; work with the BI team and business partners to provide controls to prevent future occurrences and work with data team to create long term solutions

Operational

  • Assist in the handling of various vendors that provide tools leveraged by the sales team
  • Work with necessary parties, sometimes across departments, as new initiatives or issues arise

Qualifications: 

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office including Excel and PowerPoint
  • Combine strong quantitative and analytical skills, strong written and verbal communication skills, and ability to generate simple and impactful output
  • Effective team player, able to work with people of all levels and build strong relationships
  • Self-motivated and able to handle multiple tasks at once
  • Some basic knowledge of the investment management industry
  • Willing to work through tasks that require significant number crunching in order to translate raw data into usable reports
  • Proficiency with data query and compilation software

Job Title:  IT Intern

Responsibilities of the Role: 

  • Assist in the development of data aggregation, integration, reporting, and analytical tools
  • Develop prototypes, proof of concepts, and final production deliverables
  • Assist in the testing of production deliverables
  • Research and prototype Amazon Web Services-based artificial intelligence and/or big data services to determine potential applicability to Hartford Funds

Qualifications: 

  • Computer science or data science majors preferred
  • Knowledge and experience with complex data structures
  • Experience utilizing the following: SQL, Tableau, R, Python in either professional or significant academic experience
  • Python experience in a professional, large data set environment especially preferred
  • Academic exposure to or intellectual interest in artificial intelligence and/or machine learning would be great
