Ricky Rajani is a Software Engineer at Facebook Oculus Virtual Reality. In her role, Ricky works on 3D graphics rendering for the Oculus Guardian product.
According to Ricky, these are three ways to stand out as an intern:
1) Be Passionate: Show your team that you are excited to be working on your product or project. You can do this by reading about your industry and staying up to date with its trends. Also, don’t be afraid to present new solutions to your team that will help them fill in gaps. Take it that one step further to show you really care.
2) Be Cross-Functional: It is important to get to know the members on your own team; however, it is also critical to get to know co-workers outside of your team for cross-functional work. For example, if you are a marketer, make an effort to know engineers and product managers. Understanding how different departments function will let you see how a company operates at large and allow you to make more meaningful contributions.
3) Be Curious: Always be eager to learn. You have the Internet at your fingertips, so use it! Another way to learn is by asking questions. Ask your colleagues or manager questions whose answers will make you a better team member. No one will think you are less knowledgeable if you ask a question.
