The Handwork Studio offers a blend of a traditional summer camp and experiential learning. Their programs help students develop new skills, discover their capabilities, and embrace the power of innovation in a nurturing environment. Located in 7 locations throughout DC, PA, MD, and VA, students ages 5-16 learn hands-on skills like robotics, machine sewing, fiber arts, fashion design, woodworking, architecture, and more. Throughout their unforgettable summers, The Handwork Studio encourages students to develop an internal sense of pride by being kind to themselves, learning and growing from their mistakes, and fearlessly exploring their ideas.

Roles

The Handwork Studio is looking for an Assistant Youth Development Director and dynamic Site DirectorsLead Summer Instructors, and Assistant Instructors with a desire to bring the magic of “learning by making” to life through their core values of trust, care, education, and creativity.

Assistant Youth Development Director 

The Handwork Studio is looking for an Assistant Camp Director in their DC region to support their organization’s growth and strategic vision. Do you LOVE working with children and being creative? Are you looking to build a career to bridge your education, internships, and passions? Do you want to work someplace where your voice will be heard and you will be an integral part of growing a mission-driven organization? Then this role might be for you! As an Assistant Camp Director, you’ll work directly with the Executive Director and a small, but mighty operations team to assist in all operations, management, and growth of The Handwork Studio to ensure that the mission of their camp is fulfilled. This is an Exempt, full-time, salaried, and year-round position.

Site Directors 

The Site Director knows how to spin magic with a team and is passionate about igniting a Learn By Making” experience for campers and staff alike. As an organizational genius, natural planner, and connector, you’ll ensure a smooth, fun, and unforgettable summer that allows campers and your team to be inspired in a safe and fun environment. Lastly, you’ll lead with the ethos of The Handwork Studio to make each camper’s and instructor’s experience unique, personalized, and special as you steer the ship with boundless energy as the hero of summer.

Lead Creative Instructors

Start a new adventure as a Lead Instructor at The Handwork Studio Camp, where your job (literally!) will be to help turn the imagination of campers into reality. How cool is that? Under your direction, kids will learn to express their creativity, build confidence, and discover their capabilities. If you are a teacher, artist, musician, storyteller, or maker with a willingness to meet kids where they’re at in their creative journey, you could be trained and deliver a magical curriculum inspired by hands-on learning and artistry. Assistant Instructors 

Start a new adventure as an Assistant Instructor at The Handwork Studio Camp, where you will be working in tandem with a Lead Instructor to help implement hands-on learning and imaginative play. Think of yourself as the necessary set of extra hands helping to win a fort-building competition or extra arms that get activated during an epic snowball fight. As an assistant, you’re the not-so-secret weapon for not only the Lead Instructor, but every camper in your cohort, anticipating, connecting, and participating in their summer of creative, imaginative, and open-ended play!
