The GenHERation® 5 Questions series features our exclusive interviews with the most powerful women in the world to provide you with actionable advice on how to navigate your career path.
Phuong Phillips is the Chief Legal Officer of Aledade, Inc.
What do you know now that you wish you knew at the beginning of your career?
Never compare yourself against others. Always be willing to learn from others, but trust your own ability.
Which high school or college class best prepared you for your professional career?
You may be surprised to hear that, as a lawyer, I found my statistics class in college to be incredibly valuable. This class taught me the importance of using data both to analyze problems and to persuade others on how to resolve them.
What is the go-to question you ask interview candidates?
I love to ask, “What are your career goals and how can I help get you there?”
What is the biggest risk you have taken?
Each time I change a job, I also take a significant risk by changing industries (e.g., solar, EVs, gaming and healthtech care). I don’t ever want to be complacent. So, I force myself to grow by learning new business models, regulatory frameworks and vocabulary, and by working with different types of professionals.
What is your genius?
My genius is having a strong intuition about people, allowing me to find ways to connect with them and to connect people with each other.
