You know that sinking feeling when you are knee deep in a project with just a few hours left until the deadline? Yeah…so does Iran. With less than two days left until the top diplomats from the five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council, Germany, and Iran must have an outline of a nuclear weapons agreement. Gerard Araud, the French ambassador to the United States, tweeted, “very substantial problems remain to be solved”. Additionally, just a day after arriving, Foreign Minister of Russia Sergey Lavrov will leave the talks to return to Moscow for previously planned meetings. Some concessions have been made, Iran has moved from demanding that it be allowed to keep nearly 10,000 centrifuges enriching uranium, to agreeing to 6,000. The implications of missing the deadline are unknown but will become clear in the next week.
