Argentinian president Christina Fernandez de Kirchner visits China as the two countries signed 15 agreements on trade, technology, and building two nuclear power plants. China is Argentina’s second largest trading partner after Brazil. China is helping Argentina build infrastructure, such as dams and railways. During the trip, President Kirchner potentially made a political gaffe when she tweeted to her 3.53 million followers, “More than 1,000 participants at the event … Are they all from the Campola and in it only for the lice and petloleum?” Instead of saying rice and petroleum, she replaced the letter “r” with the letter “l” in her tweet. Many Argentinians have criticized her comments on social media. Political experts say that the comments are unlikely to affect relations between Argentina and China.
Do you think President Kirchner’s comments will have any backlash?
