All hail the queen! As of September 9, Queen Elizabeth II has been officially recognized as Britain’s longest reigning monarch in history. David Cameron, British Prime Minister, said, “Over the last 63 years Her Majesty has been a rock of stability in a world of constant change and her senseless sense of service and duty has her admiration not only in Britain, but right across the globe.” The 89-year-old surpassed the reign of Queen Victoria, her great-great grandmother, who ruled for 63 years and 7 months. Queen Elizabeth II holds several other record-breaking titles, including the longest reigning female monarch, the monarch with her portrait on the most currencies, the most traveled monarch (she has visited 116 countries), and the oldest living monarch.
