This Saturday, November 14 will see the world’s first coffee open innovation event. Italian Foundries, an Italian firm dedicated to boosting Italy’s creative economy in the art, design, beverage and related industries has teamed up with illy, the premiere, Italian coffee company.
The two Italian firms have organized 2 coffee-hacks, free of cost, in Silicon Valley and at the Harvard i-Lab. At these coffee hacks, some of the nation’s brightest minds will work in teams to tackle illy’s proposed challenge, to be announced at each event. Following the success of Italian Foundries’ “Italian Innovation Program” this past summer, the challenge will directly target innovation. Students will brainstorm solutions related to product, marketing, and retail innovation for illy’s coffee.
Prizes include 6 paid, 2-month long internships at the illy headquarters in Trieste, Italy. Alternatively, winners can choose $1,000 instead. The hacks will also feature various illy products and beverages and host start-up panels as learning and networking opportunities for participants.
The West Coast event will be held in Menlo Park, CA at Ron Johnson’s (Former SVP of Retail, Apple Inc.) retail innovation firm, Enjoy HQ. On November 20-21, illy and Italian Foundries will bring the #coffeehack to the East Coast at the Harvard i-Labs. For more information, please visit www.coffee-hack.com
