Technology: Picture Passwords

A teen entrepreneur from Australia may have a solution to the hassle of remembering complex passwords for multiple services. Sam Crowther developed an app that allows a person to pick a photo as a password to a Web service, and then transmits that into a password that is 512 characters long. The idea behind this is that it is easy for a person to remember a specific picture on a smartphone, but it’s unlikely that a stranger will know which one the owner picked. Per Thorsheim, a cybersecurity consultant, believes that Crowther’s startup, uSig, “shows promise and a much-needed fresh approach to the current password dilemma.”
