Technology: China’s Social Media Policy

Ever thought about using a fake name online, well in China you cannot do so. China is cracking down on those who do not use their real names online in an attempt to get rid of accounts that impersonate political figures including foreign politicians like President Obama. China has required online companies to keep the real names of their users since 2012, but new laws has made it stricter. Under the new laws, users can still create their profile names, but it cannot include anything cannot contain any illegal or incorrect information. China has banned foreign social media and websites such as Facebook and Google, but local Chinese websites are able to run.
