Technology: “Bendgate”

Have you sat on your iPhone 6 recently?  You might want to check your screen.  Since the new iPhone’s release last Friday, customers have been reporting that when they increase pressure on their phone by sitting on it or, as demonstrated by one man via Youtube, bending it with their bare hands – the iPhone screen bends and cracks.  Dubbed “bendgate,” this new customer complaint comes at a tough time for Apple. Though their newest iPhone had a record breaking first weekend (with over 10  million new iPhones sold), customers soon began to complain that the new mobile operating system, iOS 8, comes with a few problems of its own, including dropped cell signals and a failing fingerprint sensor. To address the iOS 8 problem, Apple quickly pulled the software and returned iPhones back to normal but how they will address “bendgate” is another story.  The Next Web contacted an Apple support representative and the rep explained that the iPhone would have to be inspected in person by an Apple ‘Genius,’ and that person could determine whether or not to replace it.  “That is 100 percent up to the Genius you speak with at the store,” the specialist wrote, “If it doesn’t pass the inspection, then you’ll have to buy a new one.”
