Tech: Swiss Gamer Boasts Most Subscribed YouTube Channel

Felix Kjellberg, known by his viewers as PewDiePie, is the top most subscribed channel on YouTube. Kjellberg, who has over 37 million subscribers, uploads videos of himself playing and reacting to video games. YouTubers can earn money by allowing companies to play advertisements before their videos. The Swedish newspaper Expressen recently did research on the Swedish YouTuber and determined that Kjellberg earned approximately $7 million from his YouTube career in 2014.

Ian Maude from Enders Analysis stated in relation to the vast earnings of Kjellberg, “He appeals to an attractive demographic of teens and young adults.”

Kjellberg recently uploaded a video called Let’s Talk About Money in which he said, “Whenever it comes out how much I make a certain year, people just get so shocked. A lot of people are also very, very angry…They think I just sit on my (butt) all day and yell at a screen over here. Which is true. But there’s so much more to it than that.” Kjellberg added that “I’m just happy doing this. I would be doing it even if I was not as big as I am.”
