On Monday President Obama awarded two Vietnam veterans with the Medal of Honor, the nation’s highest military honor. Army Command Sargent Major Bennie G. Adkins, was presented his award. Adkins was rewarded for a list of acts of bravery, including taking on enemy fire while loading a wounded American onto a helicopter. The other recipient, Army Spc. Donald P. Sloat, died in battle after willingly taking on the impact of an accidentally triggered grenade to save his fellow soldiers. Sloat’s bother Dr. Bill Sloat received the award on his behalf.
