Politics: Obama’s Oil Decision

The Obama administration pitched a plan that would for the first time open large patches of the Atlantic Ocean for oil drilling. Though the oil companies are definitely happy about this decision, according to New Jersey Senators Cory Booker, Robert Menendez, and Frank Pallone, “Opening up the Atlantic coast to drill for fossil fuel is unnecessary, poses a serious threat to coastal communities throughout the region, and is the wrong approach to energy development in this country.” Environmental groups are also against this decision, citing the Gulf of Mexico BP oil spill as proof that drilling in the ocean is not safe.
