Politics: Obama’s Immigration Plan

“The actions I’m taking are not only lawful, they’re the kinds of actions taken by every single Republican President and every Democratic President for the past half century,” said President Obama in a recent speech about immigration. “And to those Members of Congress who question my authority to make our immigration system work better, or question the wisdom of me acting where Congress has failed, I have one answer: Pass a bill.”  There was no doubting President Obama’s confidence as he outlined his new plan for immigration which featured, above all else, the decision to allow 4.1 million undocumented workers to be eligible for a new policy that allows undocumented parents of U.S. citizen and legal permanent children to stay in the country and work legally, if they have been in the U.S. for five years or more and pass a background check.  Called “deferred action” the plan will likely be up and running by Spring.
