On June 21st, the world officially celebrated International Yoga Day for the first time, commemorating what has become one of the most popular ways to exercise and relax in the fitness world. Millions of people worldwide, from India to France, participated in the festivities by stretching and meditating on their yoga mats. 1,500 people doing yoga under the Eiffel tower is not something you see every day! Now, the World Health Organization hopes to work with yoga centers in India to standardize the different forms of yoga so that it may be more effectively incorporated into universal healthcare practices. Often cited as an effective way of combatting stress and cardiovascular diseases, yoga may soon earn a more legitimate place in healthcare and continue to be celebrated by people of all ages and backgrounds every June 21st.
