Health: Hormone May Offer a New Cancer Treatment Option

Although one would like to believe the many conspiracy theories that insist a definite cure for cancer has been found, the scientific and medical world has yet to see such a breakthrough. Researchers from Cambridge and the University of Adelaide, however, have recently discovered that the hormone progesterone can slow down the rate at which cancer cells grow, specifically in relation to breast cancer. As progesterone is easily accessible and naturally found in the body, the researchers say that the drug used in cancer treatments would be both cheap and safe. Professor Carlos Caldas, one of the doctors working on the drug, has said, “in early breast cancer you could increase the number of people being cured and in advanced breast cancer, where we’re not curing, we could control the disease for longer.” Clinical trials will soon be in effect – fingers crossed!
