Education: For-Profit for False Promises

For-profit educational institutions have been under fire for the past few months in Washington for their false promises and high price tags. The New York State Attorney General is even pressing charges against DeVry Education Group, a for-profit institution that markets itself as a credible university. DeVry has since released a statement saying that “the timing of the process and potential financial impact can’t be predicted at this time” when referring to the impact of marketing materials they have used in the past. A similar organization, Corinthian Colleges Inc., has been denied federal aid as of last month by the Department of Education, and if the policies focused on DeVry follow suit, the same will happen to all for-profit education institutions that falsely advertise.
