Education: Donors Establish Charleston Scholarship Fund

The combined contributions of anonymous donors have raised over $3 million to establish a scholarship fund in honor of Clementa Pinckney, the pastor who was shot and killed during the horrific Charleston church shooting on June 17th. The fund, which continues to grow through donations made to, was created in order to finance the college tuition fees of the nine victims’ children in the future. A fitting homage to Pastor Pinckney, a man who advocated education in the Charleston community, the scholarship is yet another reminder of kindness in the face of tragedy. In the words of Charleston mayor Joseph P. Riley Jr, the children will “not only get a college education, but they will be receiving an important lesson about how human beings of good will respond to challenges and come together.”
