Education: Discrimination in the Workplace

A recent report has revealed that an African American college graduate has the same employment opportunities as a while person without a diploma. In one study, job applicants with white-sounding names got 50 percent more callbacks than those who had African American names but the same credentials. This discrimination in the workplace is due to the long history of racism that has lasted across centuries. However, increased education will continue to close the gap. A high school diploma obtained by a black man has a 50 percent larger impact than it would for a white man. So by the time a black man has arrived at the professional degree level, he is much more likely to be employed.
