Business: Corporate Misconduct

Last week, the Justice Department emphasized to the public that prosecutions for corporate misconduct should not end with just a settlement with the company, meaning a hefty fine should not be the only consequence.  Prosecutors now want to focus on reaching individuals who are responsible for the company’s wrongdoing, including the senior officers in the country who partake in the operations. Former Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. stated, “…that the buck needs to stop somewhere where corporate misconduct is concerned and that getting there won’t be easy.”  He wants Congress to enact new laws to encourage whistle-blowers inside companies to report wrongdoings through larger rewards.
