Alice Munro

Name: Alice Munro

Famed for: Nobel-Prize winning writer

About: Munro grew up in Ontario, Canada and many of her fiction is set in southwestern, Ontario, near her hometown.  Munro has Alice-Munro-002been writing since she was 18 years old and in college and she released her first collection of stories, Dance of the Happy Shades in 1968 to rave reviews and Canada’s highest literary prize, The Governor General’s Award.  Since then she has written and released dozens of stories which have been published in sources like the New York Times and Harper’s Magazine.  Most recently and perhaps most notably, she received the Literary Nobel-Prize in 2013 as a “master of the contemporary short story.”
