I am not surprised by the countries with the lowest percentages of women in national parliaments, however, I am disappointed by the fact that the United States only has 18.3% women in its legislative branch. For a country that prides itself on presenting equal opportunities for all, it’s sad to see that despite the rise in qualified females (as determined by their rising representation in national colleges and corporations) women are hardly gaining any spaces in Congress, which suggests that some sexism is still at work when people choose who to vote for or when women consider future careers.
