“I’m running for President and I hope to earn your support!” Ted Cruz’s tweet heard round the world announced his decision to enter the race to be the President of the United States. Cruz also made an official statement announcing his decision to run on Monday at Liberty University in Virginia. Cruz is a first-term senator and a favorite of conservative voters. Cruz is known for his leadership in the widely criticized effort to shut down the government in 2013 after making a symbolic 21 hour speech on the Senate floor against the Affordable Care Act. Before winning a seat in the senate, Cruz was Texas’ solicitor general and with the Federal Trade Commission and the Department of Justice. Cruz also served under President George W. Bush as a policy advisor in 2000.
