Famed As: South Korea’s first female President
About: Park Geun-hye is South Korea’s eleventh president. More importantly, she is the nation’s first female president, and the first female head of state in Northeast Asia. Before her time as President, Park served as the chairwoman of the Grand National Party (GNP), which is now the Saenuri Party, from 2004 to 2006 and 2011 to 2012. Park received a Bachelor’s of Science in electronic engineering from Sogang University in 1974. She has also received honorary doctoral degrees from several schools including the Chinese Culture University in Taiwan and the Pukyong National University. In both 2013 and 2014, Park was named the 11th most powerful woman on Forbes Magazine’s List of the World’s 100 Most Powerful Women.
