Mindy Kaling

Famed as: Actress, writer, and director of FOX sitcom, the Mindy Project

About: Mindy Kaling was born as Vera Mindi Chokalingam in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Kaling attended Buckingham Browne & Nichols, a private school in Massachusetts, in 1997. She entered Dartmouth College the following year, where she joined the school’s improv comedy team, “The Dog Day Players.” Kaling graduated from Dartmouth in 2001 with a bachelors in playwriting. Matt & Ben, one of the first plays she wrote after graduating, was recognized by the TIME magazine as one of the “Top Ten Theatrical Events of The Year.” In 2005, Mindy Kaling starred in The Office as Kelly Kapoor and wrote and directed a few episodes, even receiving Emmy nominations for her work. The Office ended in 2012, however Mindy received another contract for her own show, The Mindy Project. Kaling writes, directs, produces, and acts as the lead character in The Mindy Project, and the show is currently in its third season.

    Mindy Kaling is one of my favorite actresses! She is one of my role models because of the active roles of writer, producer, and director that she adopts in The Mindy Project.
