Health: Diabetes Prevention

There are already 29.1 million Americans with Type 2 Diabetes. This year about two million adults and 5,000 children are predicted to add to that number. People are encouraged to keep diabetes at bay by preventing excess weight that runs in families. To do so people are encouraged to eat healthier and exercise. Some diet and exercise tips include:

  1. Avoid Drastic Measures: Crash diets and unusual eating plans are not dependable. It is more effective to make gradual changes in what and how much you eat. This gives the body a chance to adjust to the changes.
  2. Reduce Calories: This does not necessarily mean count calories. Instead, concentrate on food choices and the portion size.
  3. Drink Coffee: Drinking two to three cups of coffee a day has been linked to a lower risk of Type 2 Diabetes. In this case, consider drinking unsweetened coffee instead of soda.
