Education: UCLA Volunteer Day

More than 7,0000 UCLA students took part in Monday’s sixth annual sixth annual Volunteer Day.  They were sent to about 40 different locations in the Los Angeles region, and they worked at various community centers, schools, parks, and food banks.  Many helped restore hiking trails, painted schools, catalogued books, and sort supplies at food pantries.  UCLA Chancellor Gene Block, who joined in on the event at Los Angeles Elementary School, said, “Through Volunteer Day, we are emphasizing to students how improving the quality of life in Los Angeles and truly engaging with those around us are integral to a good education.”
